I’m off and running . . .

January 21, 2021 by MK Turner Filed Under: Authors Ramblings, Giveaways, Information on books, My Books 22 Comments

Hello & Happy New Year,

Remember me? It’s been a while since my last confession, and there’s a reason for that – I didn’t want to come back with no news. Again. So, I’m chuffed to be able to tell you that I have actually FINISHED a book – yes, one that I’ve written.  Not a Bearing Witness or a Meredith & Hodge, which many of you are chasing me for, but still, it’s finished. And, I will confess that eighty per cent of it was written quite a while ago, but most of it had to be rewritten or tweaked, so I’m counting it. It was going to be a one off, but I might just pull together a mini-series, as I have a couple of ideas for stories with a similar set up. The working title is An Unexpected Turn of Events, but it’s more likely going to end up being called, Who Killed Charlie Birch?  Which of these two titles would grab your attention in the first instance?

An unexpected chain of events, has resulted in Charlie Birch holding a group of people hostage in the village pub. He didn’t intend to, events took over, and it seemed like a good idea when he bolted the last door. It wasn’t. Within hours, Charlie is dead. But who killed him?

As always, the clues are there, in what is a light-hearted murder mystery.

It’s gone off to the editor, so as soon as it’s ready for advanced copy readers, I’ll be shouting for volunteers. This is a cover I put together for this newsletter, I can’t show you the actual cover because my previous designer has retired and I’m in the process of finding someone new, if anyone has any recommendations, please don’t hesitate to shout.

I’m now back to Meredith & Hodge, as yet untitled, and hoping to get it finished in the next couple of months. My ability to focus has been so bad this last year, I’ve now started giving my self daily targets.  I don’t meet all of them, but it has certainly kept things moving along.

AUDIO NEWS

The BIG news this time, is that The Cuban Conundrum, narrated by the talented Lee Beddow, went live on audio today.  I will be sending out codes to those who are on the ‘every time’ list, but if you would like a FREE code and haven’t heard from me, please let me know and I’ll get one off to you. Click the track below to hear a sample. I’m sure the ladies will like Alberto’s voice, and Clara is guaranteed to raise a smile.

In other news, feedback on Witness for Wendy audio has been fabulous, Nikki Loy has definitely picked up more than a few fans, on this, her first audio book. If you did enjoy it, I would be grateful if you would also take the time to review it on Audible or Amazon to let other listeners know too. 😊

Excerpt below if you would like a preview

I still have FREE codes for most of the books out in audio in both US & UK, if you would like to try one, let me know and I’ll get codes off to you.

That’s it for now, I hope you are all safe, well, and coping with this seemingly never-ending pandemic. Things are awful here in the UK at them moment, and I think it will get a little worse before it starts getting better, but, with the vaccine being rolled out at a rate of knots, there is now light at the end of the tunnel.

Happy reading,

Decisions, Decisions – Help needed please!

November 10, 2014 by MK Turner Filed Under: Information on books, My Books Leave a Comment

Well, you don’t hear from me for weeks on end, and here I am back in a couple of days!

As mentioned Antony at Freshly Squeezd has been working on the cover for the latest Meredith & Hodge novel, One Secret Too Many, and I now have two designs to choose from. They are similar, and I am struggling to make up my mind. What do you think? Which one would catch your eye? I look forward to receiving your thoughts, and will go with the majority vote, simply respond Cover one, or Cover two in the comment section below. You may of course add other comments should you so wish :o)

On a separate note, I haven’t forgotten that I am drawing three random subscribers of Welcome to my world, to receive a printed copy of The Recruitment of Lucy James. Erring on the side of caution, I am waiting for the final printed proof to arrive before I order them! Hopefully it will arrive this week and I will announce those chosen here.

Must dash – dogs to walk, and novels to finish.

Best wishes

The Recruitment of Lucy James – available now!

July 30, 2014 by MK Turner Filed Under: My Books Leave a Comment

I’11781216m delighted to announce that The Recruitment of Lucy James is now available as an eBook.! Buy On Amazon

Lucy James goes out to celebrate the end of her final exams at Cardiff University. It’s a decision she soon comes to regret because next day she has to attend an important interview, but she can’t remember why. Having recently passed the stringent vetting procedure for a top recruitment agency, she thinks she is probably meeting a prospective employer. Or is it yet another member of the agency? Deciding to wing it, she turns up and meets Gloria.

Gloria naturally expects Lucy to know why she is there, and almost immediately gives Lucy her first client. Lucy is horrified, but, concerned she might blow her chance if she confesses her lack of knowledge, she sets off on her first assignment.

Another two clients are quickly added to her case load, and she finds herself involved with blackmail, missing persons, and a possible murder. Convinced she is working for a covert government agency, Lucy ploughs on with the job. Until one day, out of blue, she is forced to make a decision that could affect everything she has ever known. And having made her choice, she is devastated when it is denied.

Nothing can ever be the same again.

The final cover was agreed, and ended up being a mixture of the final two offerings. What do you think? As I’ve mentioned before this is a mystery, but not in the same vein as Meredith & Hodge, I hope you enjoy it, and I’m looking forward to receiving your feedback.

‘Lucy’ is currently being formatted for its print version, and then has to go through the mill at Createspace, but with a fair wind should be available in paperback in a couple of weeks. As promised those who have subscribed to the newsletter up to the point of paper publication will be entered into a draw, and the first three chosen will receive a complimentary copy.

Happy reading

And finally….Thank you to all those who voted on the original batch of covers, here, on Facebook, and on Twitter. Cover number three won hands down with a huge majority, and as promised here are the two versions of that cover. If you have yet to check out what the novel is about, simply go to the Work in Progress page.

Please leave a comment as to which cover you believe I should go with.

The final draft from the editor is expected any day now, so The Recruitment of Lucy James will definitely be released this summer! I am still putting the names of all subscribers, from the launch of the website, to the availability of the printed version into a draw. The first three chosen at random will receive a print addition of The Recruitment of Lucy James.

So, preferences please, Lucy 3 or Lucy 6?

The Wrong Shoes

July 28, 2013 by MK Turner Filed Under: My Books Leave a Comment

I am delighted to announce that the third in the Meredith & Hodge crime series, The Wrong Shoes, is now available.

A big thank you to Stephanie Dagg, Susan Haughton & Jo Cooksley for their help.

Working on something a little different now – The Cuban Conundrum – still a mystery though – can’t seem to avoid that!

Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Excellent, Just Excellent

April 28, 2013 by MK Turner Filed Under: Book reviews, My Books Leave a Comment

The following is an Amazon review on the Meredith & Hodge series by Susan Haughton. When I receive this sort of feed back, it really does make me work even harder not to disappoint with future efforts. I previously believed that a good review may make one relax a little, as it indicated that you had managed to get it right. With me it has the opposite effect. Whilst I am of course delighted to receive such kind words, I’m now even more determined not to let readers down. Thanks Susan.

Review: As a personal choice, I usually prefer books that are relatively lengthy and meaty in content, as well as rich in character development. I like to say they are “densely written,” meaning there is a lot of great content and are not books you can race through in a sitting or two. Both Misplaced Loyalty and Ill Conceived delivered in spades on that score.

The character development for me was absolutely top notch; I have rich visuals (in my head, of course) of the characters and feel as if I know them intimately. I absolutely love both Patsy and Meredith; both are well defined characters with strong personalities and I am chomping at the bit to read the next instalment to see how things continue to develop with them. Many of the supporting characters are also appealing and have their own distinct personalities and quirks.

I feel as if I am right in the middle of the action with them.

In addition to the excellent character development, the plots in both books (Misplaced Loyalty and Ill Conceived) kept my interest – these are the kinds of books you eagerly anticipate picking up whenever you can steal a few minutes to read.

A fan of Martha Grimes, these books remind me of her Richard Jury series, which I thoroughly enjoy. From me, that’s high praise.

So kudos to this author who has brought Hodge and Meredith to my life and given me a series I can read for years. I eagerly anticipate the next instalment as well as all of those to surely follow.
